The FI+Z system has provided the motion picture industry with several breakthrough technologies. It was the first to employ 2.4 GHz spread spectrum technology for a wireless lens and camera control and was the first to provide digital motors for lens drives. These technologies have brought an exceedingly high level of reliability and confidence to the film set such that the FI+Z is now considered a mainstream requirement for film sets worldwide.

The Preston System Includes:

Hand Unit
Robust construction, ergonomic design, quick set-up. Unit provides 16 bits of position resolution - 1 part in 64,000 - for incredible smoothness.

Has a unique scale adjustment system making extremely quick set-up. Any portion of the lens focus, iris or zoom range may be expanded to the full-scale range of the corresponding control knob with the touch of a switch. In the case of the zoom, electronic limit stops can be set. 15 focus scale rings come as standard with Lens Control Ltd. Systems, allowing lenses to be marked up on prep.

The Remote Iris Box
Includes an 8 ft cable, provides a separate control for the iris function.

The Motor Driver MDR2
This interfaces the Hand Unit with the Digital Motors. It provides 3 channels of motor drive, the camera run function and it allows wireless control of both camera frame rate and shutter angle when used in conjunction with the F/X box. The unit automatically calibrates the motors to the mechanical end limits of the lens. Each of the 3 channels has a separate 3 level torque limit selected by a switch.

Digital Motor DM1
Provides the ultimate in power and reliability under all operating conditions; it's designed to turn even the stiffest lenses under all extremes of temperature, vibration and humidity.

Digital Motor DM2
Is a smaller and lighter version of the DM1. It is intended to perform focus, iris or zoom functions on all except the stiffest lenses. This motor is an excellent choice for Steadicam or handheld work. Lens Control Ltd. Systems come with 1 DM1 + 2 DM2s.

Microwave Link
The microwave link set brings the most robust and reliable communication technology to motion picture production. Spread Spectrum technology provides very high immunity to interference with low transmitter power. 29 channels in the 2.4 GHz band are available by selection switches.

Battery Packs (3 provided)
Typically provide 7 hours of continuous operation each.

Fast Charger
The fast charger unit fully recharges the battery pack in 60 minutes.

Digital MicroForce
The Digital MicroForce zoom control provides smooth flawless zooms. A bright LED bargraph displays the zoom position. Electronic limit stops can be set with the touch of a button.

Motor Mounts
The supplied motor mounts are either Jerry Hill PAM Mounts or Speedy Brackets. Both types of motor mounts are very robust and versatile and functional with either 15mm or 19mm bars.

Cables
The cables are packed away in separate cable bags making it easy to find what you need and to sort out the ones you don't!

Lens Control System Cases
The lens control system cases are user-friendly, giving camera assistants fast, easy access to the equipment in a well laid out manner. Cases fit easily onto a magliner for transport.
